Men die sooner than women – women most affected

It’s well known that men die sooner than women.

“As women live longer than men, it’s disheartening to discover that they spend 25 per cent more of their lives in debilitating health compared to their male counterparts. This “Gender Health Gap””

So men die sooner but that’s not a gender health gap. It’s only a gender health gap if women get worse service to men. Of course, the lack of national men’s health strategy which the Government is currently promising is not a problem. Women have had one for about 2 years and of course there have been women’s hospitals since the 1840s. Women do have different medical issues from men, most notably pregnancy and giving birth, but then men have specific issues too, prostate, penile and testicular. I’m also yet to see a specifically children’s health programme. We could even separate by age, not only youngster’s but also the aged.

So how about, instead of a women’s or men’s health programme we have a health programme? Obviously specific sections be it on women’s or men’s issues but a health programme, not a programme for women first and maybe later men but a health programme for men, women and children.
